My name is Roger Baker, also known by my road name "Bull." I am one of the founding members of our current group reestablished in 2022. Initially, I was a Trustee, and in spring of 2024, I became one of the two Road Captains/Safety Officers. I was raised in New England, however, spent most of my adult life in the frozen tundra of Wisconsin, the land of cheese, beer and the Green Bay Packers! I spent 31 years with the Madison Police Dept. and retired as a detective several years ago and made the move to Virginia for a new career in a related profession. My road name carried over from my police career. Long story. It originated from a crazy traffic stop, and the name stuck. I'm so used to it that I don't answer to much else.
I moved here with my fiancé Coco who is originally from Taiwan and a proud member of our group. We live with our Rottweiler appropriately named Vengeance. She is friendly, but if you ever meet her, you will understand how she got her name. We also have a rescue Pit Bull and six chickens.
I have been riding since I was seventeen with various types of bikes. In 2022, I traded in my BMW F800GS for my Chieftain. I miss the old bike; however, I love my Chieftain!
My craziest story riding happened in 1986 or 1987. My dad and I were riding in Custer State Park in South Dakota. We became caught in a stampede of Buffalo on a small winding road and barely managed to weave around them! I remember hitting the brakes so one could run in front of me, before gunning the engine to avoid one charging from the side.
My favorite group riding story happened on a scouting mission to Maggie Valley, NC to the wheels Through Time Museum. It was in March, and the genesis of Detour getting his road name. When we began the ride back home, and on the morning of the return trip back the temps were in the low 30's. The morning, we left Maggie Valley, we found our bikes covered in frost and some ice, but we all had an awesome time with some stories I don't think I should write about!
This is a great group of people that we are lucky to call our close friends!
